One major highlight of 2024, although certainly a challenging year, was the rapid ascension of UK duo Good Neighbours. If you avoid the vast majority of pop culture like I do then these Euro lads probably materialized out of nowhere, but they did indeed stem from somewhere. That place was TikTok when their viral hit “Home” caught the world's attention so much that it had to be removed from the mega app. Give ‘em hell, boys!
As I've grown closer to my new situation as a super Foster The People fan and blogger for the past two years, I've lost tremendous interest in bands I used to love, including the entire music industry quickly descending into a flaming dumpster fire from the pits of hell, but this new group feels good and is aesthetically pleasing in all the right ways. Good Neighbours consist of Oli Fox and Scott Verrill who hail from different cities who teamed up to create the next era of Indie music this side of England. Oli, an Essex native, is a skilled songwriter who supported Sigrid on her 2018 UK tour while Scott, from South London, worked as a soloist for his project kwassa played Glastonbury long ago. This dynamic duo is onto big things in the mid-2020s and beyond.
Good Neighbours entered my life when Foster The People announced their North American tour for 2025 in early October 2024. Since then these boys have crept into my heart space with their English charm and summery aesthetic. Ever since I was a child the British music scene usually bodes well with me more so than the scene in America, and I'm not sure why that is exactly. Good Neighbours are becoming one of my favorites in no time flat.
Their self-titled EP, available now via their official YouTube channel, features tracks sure to entice you into booking a vacation to a remote island and coast the day away. Although “Home” is a huge viral hit, the first track I heard “Keep It Up” lifted my spirits during a particularly bad day and “Home” sounds like a mix between a Queen track mixed with a plethora of gospel vibes producing a seriously amazingly good song. The digital edition of the extended play debuted January 2024 and is also available to purchase via the band's webstore on CD or vinyl.
I read an article from Ones To Watch about major labels noticing the duo's on the verge of success, barely an album out and already on tour with Foster The People, and are taking notice of their career. I only hope the best for them as they tread a slippery slope into becoming a well known act in the industry.
Things are heating up in music as a new year approaches and I'm here for it. There needs to be more quirky and left of center artists in the industry that's, unfortunately, been bogged down by bands who are a complete waste of time and money. Hopefully there's still a light at the end of this dark tunnel.
