Hey, guys
Glancing at my Foster The People CD and vinyl collection I noticed the artwork has varied overtime since gaining popularity since 2010. As always, I adore the bright colors and aesthetics of the LA Indie rockers spanning everything they've ever done up to this point so let's talk about it in today's post.
Let's begin by discussing the basic palette and design of “Torches” which debuted May 23, 2011 on Columbia Records. When “Torches X” dropped in 2021 the design varied with the album pressed on bright orange wax and the tag resembled vintage hippie font from the 70s. For a summertime gem such as the band's first record I love the color and design schemes of the album.
There's a live edition of “Torches” from 2011 featuring a DVD, but the cover art is black instead of white and orange. Doing a Google search I've found both a black and orange color scheme to it, and I need to remember to get it via Amazon sometime.
Unfortunately, “Supermodel” didn't vary much from CD to vinyl. The concept of the artwork is pretty similar to the first record but it's a beautiful shade of blues and greens. I agree the palette is more mature for such a serious record with lyrics about aging gracefully in a social media and celebrity obsessed world. The vinyl is a basic black and the tag card is basic and easy to understand.
When we get to “Sacred Hearts Club” the fun ramps up again with “SHC” pressed on a limited edition hot pink vinyl. The artwork on the CD and record tag now features a geometric pattern using pink and red shades. Photos used in the album booklet shows the guys dressed in their slick and black getups inviting you into the club or chilling on a couch.
The 2020 EP “In The Darkest Of Nights, Let The Birds Sing” the album was only pressed onto bright bluish purple wax without a CD format, and the cover art was of a gas station in the middle of the night. This was their first effort without a label so only a limited amount of copies were sold on the band's website.Okay, kids! That's all for today. See ya later!
