Los Angeles dynamic duo Peel are releasing their debut “Acid Star” on March 29, 2024 via Innovative Leisure. I couldn't be more excited to own another golden ticket from my band of heroes, and since the release date is inching closer, the preorder couldn't have been more worth it.
Sean Cimino and Isom Innis initially met when they were recruited into Foster The People in 2010 as touring members. They hit it off so well they teamed up to create their own thing. Now the boys have an album coming out four years after their self-titled EP hit the Internet October of 2020.
The band already dropped two singles “Y2J” and the title track. Now, as of February 7, 2024, the group shared another single “Climax” after a live take of the song surfaced on YouTube.
One of my favorite things about this project is the band's authenticity. The duo keeps true to their vision instead of what mainstream media pressures them to do. Even Paste Magazine agrees with this sentiment calling it “unique convergence of post-punk, electronica and psychedelia.” Good one, Paste Magazine! Let your freak flag fly in a sea of dreary grays and boredom.
Cimino goes into detail about their fresh sound and what drove them to reach that point when writing “Climax”.
“The sonic landscape of ‘Climax’ nods to our post-punk roots, while the spirit and rhythm propel us forward into the realm of club and dance music.”
“The lyrics were inspired by the Gaspar Noe movie ‘Climax’ and a bizarre rave I went to in Mexico City,” Innis interjects.
I'm still curious what “Mall Goth” sounds like and what the lyrics are.
