Hey, guys!
Foster The People reuploaded two remixes of “Lost In Space” to their official YouTube channel this past Halloween 2024. Although I think the various mixes of the lead single from their fourth album “Paradise State Of Mind” is fantastic, I do want to discuss other edits of the track as well as the original. I want to take this opportunity to step away from the band's rigorous 2025 touring schedule to talk about the music for a while. So, let's do that, Foster kids!
The boys dropped these remixes at the perfect time since the holiday season is upon us. I don't know about you, but these tracks would make a great addition to your New Year's Eve playlist or whatever you're celebrating this time of year. If the original version of “Lost In Space” didn't make you dance around your room like a doofus then these other edits will surely get you scuttling to the nearest dancefloor ASAP!
The first remix uploaded to the channel was “Lost In Space (Mochakk Remix)” which I think really subdues the tone and beat of the original mix, and as somebody who loves electronics, I think this is a good way to introduce the Los Angeles trio to the techno junkie in your life. The vibe sounds more like 80's 8-bit techno from a Nintendo video game which is something I really love about this one. I don't hear the violins at any point during the track at all so if that's what floats your boat be sure to check it out.
The next variation of “Lost In Space” is the PNAU remix which is probably my favorite of the two tracks. I feel like this one really enhances the original 70's vibe of the song from the album more so than contorting it to sound like something it isn't. I can see a DJ jamming this at a retro nightclub or a swanky house party counting down to the new year. Between an 80's techno 8-bit mix and this enhanced variation of the original I would absolutely choose the PNAU remix above all else.
Other edits include the unofficial and filtered instrumental, bass backing track, and the radio edit which is essentially just the mix in the “Lost in Space” video which debuted on May 31st, 2024. However, as much as these edits and remixes are super cool, nothing beats the original track on “Paradise State Of Mind” which I replay over and over nearly everyday. Every song on the tracklist is the definition of perfection and doesn't need any further embellishing to sound any better. I'm going to link a video below and you be the judge.
What do you think, kids? Is it better or worse than the original? I love it all.
